New 65W, 90W and 120W Home Healthcare Power Supplies
With an aging population and reduced hospital capacity, more patients are receiving care in the comfort of their own homes. As a result, medical devices that are typically used in professional medical environments are now being used in domestic settings. While the function of the equipment remains the same in both environments, the challenges and requirements are vastly different. This lays the foundation for the new standard for home healthcare.
The MDT series of IP22-rated external power supplies are suited to less clinically controlled environments, where compulsory cleaning regimes may not exist and exposure to pets, children, and increased ingress risk is more likely. The new family is available in Class I or II variants (C14, C6 or C8 inlets) and features enhanced EMC immunity.
Home healthcare equipment must withstand the potentially unique vibration and storage conditions of –20 to +70°C, at up to 93% RH. Operational environmental conditions of +5 to +40°C, 15–93% RH (non-condensing), and atmospheric pressures from 700 to 1060 hPa. There are tighter requirements for equipment that is intended for use whilst in transit, and these units are tested to 2.09g 5-500hz for 20mins in each axis.
The new series operates over a wide temperature range of -40 to +70°C and is suitable for elevations up to 5000m (7000m for ITE applications).
These high-efficiency power supplies meet ErP II and DoE Level VII requirements and carry dual safety approvals for medical and ITE applications. Certifications include ES/IEC/EN 60601-1 (2 × MOPP, suitable for body-floating applied part applications) and UL/IEC/EN 62368-1, including PSE approval for Japan with operation down to 70VAC.
As protective earth connection cannot be guaranteed in European and US households, externally powered home healthcare medical devices must be Class II. If internally powered, there must be clear instructions on charging and operational life. Class I equipment is permitted only for permanent installations carried out by qualified professionals, to ensure correct earth connection. IP54, 305VAAC surge and OVC III variants are available on request for devices that may require direct connection to the consumer unit.
