400W External Medical Power Supply with 520W Peak

To date the highest power in an external form factor has been circa 300W from a reputable source. In the same package as our 300W, these new units extend to 400W + peak load capability.

As devices get more and more compact the space for the mains power conversion gets smaller and smaller. Power densities can be increased with different cooling methods; fan, conduction and even liquid cooling, but removing the power supply completely from the enclosure is hard to beat! The new 400W unit squeezes into the same enclosure of the previous 300W generation 8.74 x 4.4 x 1.77” (222.0 x 112.0 x 45.0mm).

Other than space and cooling, moving the AC-DC power conversion outside of your design also helps with the safety headache since the 2x MOPP isolation from the mains is covered by the external power supply that caries its own standalone safety approval. Choosing to separate the AC-DC conversion in your device design will fast track the type test approval process, since the installation of the power supply will not need to be assessed.

This series is certified according to IEC/EN/ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1, IEC/EN 60601-1-2, 4th edition and IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 to suit both medical and Industrial applications. The product is also suitable to be used in body floating (BF) applied part medical devices, having the associated earth leakage and output isolation requirements. Despite the high power output the series boasts high EMC performance to the more stringent EN55011 level B for both conducted and radiated emissions and of course 4th edition EN60601-1-2 medical immunity requirements.

The peak power of 520W (230VAC) and 480W (115VAC) can be sustained for a maximum of 3 seconds which is useful for charging motor controllers, Peltier drivers, starting motors directly or powering printers. Whilst other high power externals on the market do not support lower voltages the EDM400 supports down to 12V at 380W driving loads of up to 31.66A continuously.

With international IEC, American UL and European (including UKCA) approvals, and universal input which only begins derating at 100V, these units are a great choice for the wider international markets.
